DYING TO SELF

Dying to self

SOWLE - Christian Life and Business Coach

The Bible tells us not to conform to the patterns of this world. Too many times we find ourselves doing things we would not normally do; the reason being, someone told us to do it or someone influenced us or because we are told that is what people normally do. But what if it is the wrong thing? What if it is out of our character? What if it is against God's Word? What if it will lead us to destruction? Who sets the standards of how we are supposed to be and live in this world?

One of the things the Bible tells us to do is die to ourselves, that is, the fleshly sinful nature. We do not follow the crowd if it is going against God, we do not do things just because others are doing it. We die to self. It is one of the most difficult things to do because there is a lot of external influences. Conforming is the easy way. Following Jesus costs us our earthly desires.

And He was saying to them all, 'If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23.

Why did He say that? It is because we cannot serve Him and serve the enemy. We have to choose.

That, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:22-24.

When we die to self we are no longer governed by the flesh; we put the flesh into subjection to the Word of God. We are no longer slaves to sin, we become Spirit led. We stand for what is right no matter the cost. We die with Christ and rise with Christ, and when we do, we begin bearing much fruit.

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 12:24.

We present our bodies as living sacrifice to God. We do everything for God's glory. We look straight ahead. We know who we are, we know where we are going. We become unstoppable.

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good, and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2.

Who then can separate us from the love of God?

Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the power of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39.

We have nothing to fear in this world. When we know the truth, we can be who God purposed us to be. We will not be swayed, we will stand firm. When we conform, we push who we are aside and do things to please others. Yet, we are called to please God. We are to live by God's standards. God's Word governs our life.

Blessings.

GUARD YOUR HEART

Guard your heart Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23. The Bible tells us to guard our hearts. Our Creator knows us and He gave us this instruction with full knowledge of the condition of human heart. This requires us to be sober because the world is full of chaos. Guarding our hearts is very important because it affects the trajectory of our lives. The human mind is the most deceitful of all things. It is incurable. No one can understand how deceitful it is. Jeremiah 17:9. One wrong turn can lead to a ripple effect that can end in destruction. The enemy feeds our minds with all sorts of lies; that we have sinned too much and cannot be forgiven, that we cannot make it. His aim is to throw us into confusion and for us to start doubting the Word of God. When we listen to the voices of other people, we will realize that everybody has an opinion about every subject, and the opinions are as diverse as there are p

FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness Then Jesus said, Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. And they divided up His garments by casting lots. Luke 23:24. Forgiveness! Such a simple word but a difficult action to execute. Why do we find it difficult to forgive others? Because we cannot do it by our own strength, we need God. Our flesh/ carnal nature desires to hurt those who hurt us. So watch yourselves. If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times comes back to you saying 'I repent' you must forgive them. Luke 17:3-4. We are instructed to forgive just as the Lord has forgiven us. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13. We have been forgiven freely and therefore we are to extend the same to those who hurt us. Forgiveness frees us and restores our

WHEN WE KNOW BETTER

When you know better do better There comes a point when God opens our eyes. God is light and He does not want His children to be in darkness. He opens our spiritual eyes when we develop a relationship with Him. He opens our eyes to whom we truly are and to whom others truly are. He also opens our eyes concerning our circumstances, and also we get to know our purpose. Without knowing it, we walk most of our lives blind; we do not know ourselves, we do not know who others are beyond their physical appearance, we do not know why our circumstances are the way they are, and we do not understand events that are happening all around us. When we have no understanding, we develop pride and arrogance as a coping mechanism. We start explaining away everything. We come up with all sorts of reasons why we are the way we are, why others are the way they are, and why things are the way they are. We have an answer for everything. However, the surprising thing is, the answers and opinion are as d
