Fear
Fear is one of the most paralyzing emotions. Fear tells us not to venture out, it tells us bad things will happen, it tells us we should not start something. Most of us live in fear. It is one of the most effective strategies the enemy uses to hold us back. When we live fearful lives, we do not want to face uncertainties, we want to be comfortable.
Fear is defined as, "a distressing emotion aroused by impeding danger, evil, pain; whether the threat is real or imagined." Why do we fear so much? We can either have fear or faith. We are told perfect love drives out all fear. We were not brought into this world to fear, we were born to love and worship God, to live fearless lives to our full potential. Yet, most times we give into fear. We feed our minds with fear, we keep saying 'what if'. But what if we confronted our fears? What if we put behind what we think are our shortcomings and do it anyway? What if we look to the One who is the source of all love? How different our lives would be!
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9.
When Moses was called by God, he started listing his many shortcomings.
But Moses said, 'No, Lord, don't send me. I have never been a good speaker, and i haven't become one since You began to speak to me. I am a poor speaker, slow and hesitant. Exodus 40:10.
God knows our shortcomings, but He tells us to do it anyway, and when we do obey, He walks with us.
The Lord said to him, 'Who gives man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or dumb? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? It is I, the Lord. Now go! I will help you speak, and I will tell you what to say. Exodus 40:11-12.
Such is the assurance God gives us. When we walk in His will, He is faithful. Worry robs us of joy. Why worry when we can pray? Easier said than done, but it is the principle that should govern our lives.
Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and body more than clothes. Consider ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:22-26.
Fear robs us of a productive life. It opens our lives to the enemy. It diminishes who we are. We have the power of God in us, we need to know who our Source is; that is Who we tap our power from.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7.
God commands us to be courageous, to walk in His will.
Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall. Psalm 55:22.
Fear gives the enemy a foothold into our lives. What we fear is what we attract, this is because we give power to what we fear. We are told as a man thinketh, so is he. We become what we fear. Our identity becomes what we fear. We attract discouragement, failure, abuse; we attract all sorts of negativity. Yet, that is not God's plan for us. We are called to be winners, we are called to be the light of the world. God shifts our mindset when we ask Him to. He directs us to the path that leads to life. Through Christ, our faith is perfected.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18.
We are to live by faith.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24.
When we know who we believe in, we will live courageously.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song i praise Him. Psalms 28:7.
We are to feed our minds with the Word of God, and when we do, our lives change. We live fearless lives.
Consequently, faith comes by hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word about Christ. Romans 10:17.
